Several years ago, after many phone calls, I got access to travel on a ‘Laker’, a freighter made for sailing the Great Lakes and the many canals and locks. The voyage was from Chicago to Quebec, Canada, hauling petroleum coke. Having complete access to the ship, I was able to get portraits of the ship and its crew, both day and night.
