An ore stockyard, an industrial conveyor belt, a line of trucks under floodlights… Hardly the stuff of typical fine art photographs. Los Angeles-based photographer Tom Paiva has taken these and other similar apparently mundane subjects and looked at them in a whole new way. Tom Paiva's dramatic nocturnal images of industrial sites offer a glimpse of landscapes where most of us are not allowed.
Tom’s first book, Industrial Night, contains 46 color images from the many thousands he has taken as an industrial and maritime commercial photographer and has benefited from this privileged access to produce a stunning suite of images that document and interpret the architecture of our international economic infrastructure. And he presents these images in a way that pleases the eye.
Many of the subjects, not particularly interesting by the light of day, take on an almost abstract appeal under floodlights and many of the photos could stand alone in their own right as wall decorations.
